FAQ

Backflow testing questions in Westlake Village

Who requires backflow testing in Westlake Village?

Your water supplier. Las Virgenes Municipal Water District serves the City of Westlake Village and tests its customers’ assemblies with its own staff. California Water Service serves the Westlake area of Thousand Oaks, where you hire a certified tester.

How often do backflow assemblies need to be tested?

At least once a year, and again after installation or repair, by a certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester, under the State Water Board Cross-Connection Control Policy Handbook (section 3.3.3). Your water supplier mails the notice with the due date.

What happens if my assembly fails?

A failed assembly must be repaired or replaced and retested, generally within 30 days of the failure under the handbook (section 3.3.3), unless your supplier allows more time. We report the failure, coordinate the repair with a licensed contractor and retest the assembly.

How much does a backflow test cost?

It depends on the type and size of each assembly, how many you have, access, and any filing fee your supplier charges. Send us your notice and we will quote before scheduling.

Do I need to hire a backflow tester in Westlake Village?

Not for assemblies in the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District program, which tests them with its own certified staff. If Cal Water serves your address, or the assembly is outside the District program, you hire a certified tester.
